What is it made from?
Crowns can be made from several types of materials: metal alloys, ceramics, porcelain, composite resin, or a combination of these materials may be used. In the process of making a crown, the material often is colored to blend in with your natural teeth.
Both the "look" and function of your crowns are considered when choosing the materials most suitable for you. Dr. Beckermeyer will analyze tooth location, length, position, and the amount of tooth that shows when you smile.
How is a crown placed? In ONE Visit!
Dr. Beckermeyer will first prepare the outer portion of your tooth to fit the new crown. Moments later, when the crown is ready, Dr. Beckermeyer fits the permanent crown to your tooth, making it comfortable, and as natural looking as your other teeth! What will the crown look like?
The main goal is to create crowns that look like natural teeth! To achieve this, the color of your surrounding teeth are considered, the shape and length, and how it will look with your other teeth.
How do I care for new crowns?
To prevent damage to a crown, avoid chewing hard foods, ice or other hard objects such as pencils or sticky objects. This is especially important for tooth colored crowns. Brush twice a day and floss or use an mouthwash once a day to remove plaque. Make regular appoinments for routine examinations and professional teeth cleanings as they are as important as regular home care!
